Vietnamese Folk Music

Vietnamese folk music covers Vietnam's regional traditions: the theatrical ca trù chamber songs of the north, the quan họ antiphonal love duets of Bắc Ninh, the ca Huế songs of the center and the đờn ca tài tử chamber music of the south. Its master performers, singers like *Quách Thị Hồ* and accompanists on đàn tranh zither and đàn nguyệt lute, preserved repertories that UNESCO now lists as heritage. Documented on #Smithsonian Folkways# and modern recordings by the *Hanoi Masters*, it remains the root system beneath Vietnamese popular song.
