Yoruba Music

Yoruba music is the music of the Yoruba people of south-western Nigeria and neighbouring Benin and Togo, one of Africa's most extensively documented traditional repertories. Its core is the d霉nd煤n family of tension-tuned talking drums, led by the 矛y谩脿l霉, which imitate the tones of the Yoruba language to speak proverbs, praises and histories, supported by frame drums, rattles and iron bells. Around this percussion foundation stand sung praise poetry, Islamic-influenced genres such as s谩k谩r脿, 脿p脿l脿 and f煤j矛, and the guitar-band styles of j霉j煤, whose masters carried Yoruba musical principles into Nigerian popular music.
