Barbecue Bess / Shave 'Em Dry

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Renowned for its explicit, uninhibited lyrical content, this bawdy blues recording showcases the robust vocal power and uncompromising humor of the era's underground club scene. Supported by rollicking piano accompaniment, the singer delivers double entendres and direct sexual boasts with supreme confidence. The session is highly prized by historians as a rare, uncensored glimpse into adult entertainment within 1930s African-American nightlife.
