Baby Won't You Please Come Home Blues / Oh Daddy Blues

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during her absolute commercial peak, this single features the immense, resonant vocal power that earned the singer her title as the 'Empress of the Blues.' Accompanied only by stately, melancholic piano, the performance eschews aggressive boasting in favor of deep emotional vulnerability and pitch-perfect phrasing. The recording was essential in transitioning the blues from a folk idiom into a sophisticated, mainstream recording industry staple.
