Jail-House Blues / Graveyard Dream Blues

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during the monumental first year of her recording career, this release showcases the immense vocal power that earned the artist her regal title. The stark, sorrowful themes of incarceration and mortality are supported by nuanced, expressive piano accompaniment. The delivery bridges the theatricality of vaudeville with the unvarnished emotion of rural blues forms.
