Album Notes & Community Reviews
Transforming a standard Jerome Kern melody, the vocalist utilizes her signature rhythmic delay and slight tonal edge to fully exploit the lyric's inherent sarcasm. The small-group backing provides an incredibly light, bouncy swing feel that perfectly counterbalances her wry, understated delivery. The recording exemplifies her genius for subverting the lyrical intent of popular Tin Pan Alley compositions.
