Call Me

by Blondie / Giorgio Moroder

Call Me cover art

Giorgio Moroder originally presented the instrumental backing track to Stevie Nicks before giving it to Blondie's Debbie Harry to write lyrics for the film 'American Gigolo'. Driven by a galloping, synthesized disco beat and Clem Burke's aggressive live drumming, the song perfectly bridged punk-adjacent new wave with Euro-disco. It spent six consecutive weeks at number one, becoming the highest-selling single in the US for the year 1980.
