Lord I'm Discouraged / I'm Goin' Home

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Pivoting away from secular bravado, the foundational Delta bluesman applies his fiercely rhythmic, percussive guitar attack to deeply traditional spiritual themes. His gravelly, commanding vocal delivery imparts an immense sense of gravitas and apocalyptic urgency to the religious narratives. The recording proves that the profound intensity of his style transcended the division between Saturday night blues and Sunday morning gospel.
