Bongo Bop / Embraceable You

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Demonstrating the saxophonist's genius for melodic paraphrase, the B-side completely deconstructs a Gershwin standard, offering a stunning, highly complex new melody over the original chord changes. The session features the fluid, sensitive trumpet work of a young Miles Davis, contrasting perfectly with the leader's fiery, intricate alto lines. It remains one of the most widely analyzed and celebrated ballad interpretations in the jazz idiom.
