Clair de lune

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Adapting a renowned piano composition for a massive symphony orchestra, the conductor employs lush, swelling strings and prominent woodwinds to maximize the work's inherent emotionality. The resulting highly romanticized interpretation significantly broadened the mainstream appeal of French Impressionist music in America. The recording exemplifies the era's tendency to prioritize rich tonal color and dramatic interpretation over strict, score-accurate transcription.
