Lazarus

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released merely weeks before David Bowie's death, 'Lazarus' serves as a deeply self-aware epitaph masquerading as an avant-garde rock single. Accompanying the Off-Broadway musical of the same name, the track is anchored by a mournful, sliding bassline and Donny McCaslin's wailing jazz saxophone. Its harrowing music video, featuring Bowie confined to a hospital bed with buttons placed over his eyes, recast his impending mortality as his final artistic statement.
