Sound and Vision / A New Career in a New Town

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A masterpiece of the Berlin Trilogy era, this track contrasts upbeat, buoyant musicality with lyrics addressing Bowie's severe creative block and reclusive depression. Co-producer Tony Visconti heavily utilized the newly invented Eventide Harmonizer to pitch-shift the snare drum, creating a distinctive, metallic descent. The song notably features a lengthy, nearly two-minute instrumental introduction and ethereal backing vocals provided by Mary Hopkin.
