Young Americans / Suffragette City

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded largely in Philadelphia with a formidable ensemble of authentic R&B session musicians, this track unveiled the artist's highly successful 'plastic soul' incarnation. The driving conga rhythms, gospel-tinged backing vocals, and lyrical references to the Nixon administration masterfully assimilated African-American musical forms for the mainstream rock audience.
