Never No Lament (Don't Get Around Much Anymore) / Cotton Tail

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Highlighting a monumental peak in big band composition, this single contrasts a famously relaxed, bluesy ballad with a fiercely up-tempo, complexly harmonized rhythm changes chart. The B-side, 'Cotton Tail,' features a breathtaking, extended tenor saxophone solo by Ben Webster that became a defining blueprint for swing era improvisation. The arrangements showcase the orchestra's unmatched ability to balance intricate orchestration with raw swinging power.
