Perdido / Raincheck

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Highlighting a composition by valve trombonist Juan Tizol, this recording features a deceptively simple, incredibly infectious melody that rapidly became a mandatory jazz standard. The arrangement perfectly balances relaxed, swinging section work with brilliant solo statements, reflecting the unmatched cohesion of the orchestra during the early 1940s. It stands as a prime example of the band's ability to seamlessly integrate Latin influences into the swing format.
