Album Notes & Community Reviews
Anchored by relentless, virtuosic stride piano technique, this side perfectly captures the exuberant, comedic persona that drove the bandleader's massive commercial appeal. The tight, swinging small-group accompaniment serves primarily to frame his irrepressible vocal interjections and complex rhythmic variations. The recording is a textbook example of highly sophisticated jazz masked as accessible, good-time entertainment.
