Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during his early tenure with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, this session highlights the vocalist's pioneering mastery of breath control and continuous, legato phrasing. The lush, string-heavy arrangement perfectly supports the deeply romantic, melancholic interpretation of the standard. The recording effectively signaled the transition from big band dance music to the era of the superstar solo crooner.
