Album Notes & Community Reviews

Produced by Rick Rubin, this profound acoustic cover of a Nine Inch Nails track served as Johnny Cash's final artistic triumph. Cash's frail, wavering baritone transforms Trent Reznor's industrial meditation on addiction into a devastating reflection on mortality, legacy, and physical decay. The critically acclaimed Mark Romanek-directed music video heavily emphasized Cash's deteriorating health, elevating the song into a cultural monument.
