Album Notes & Community Reviews

Joni Mitchell's orchestral standards album, arranged and conducted by Vince Mendoza with a 71-piece orchestra, recasts songs by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and others alongside two of her own compositions. Her weathered, low-register delivery turns the program into a single nocturne on love and loss, sequenced as a song cycle.
