Album Notes & Community Reviews
Released unexpectedly following the uplifting 'i', 'The Blacker the Berry' operates as a furious, confrontational examination of racial hypocrisy and systemic oppression. Driven by a menacing, Boom Bap-influenced beat from Boi-1da and a gritty, dancehall-style hook from Assassin, Kendrick Lamar delivers one of his most aggressive, impassioned vocal performances. The song masterfully indicts both societal racism and his own perceived internal contradictions.
