These Walls

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Featuring Bilal, Anna Wise, and Thundercat, this incredibly dense, funk-driven track acts as a multi-layered lyrical masterpiece. The song's extended metaphor uses the concept of 'walls' to explore female anatomy, prison cells, and the rapper's own internal guilt regarding his use of fame for revenge. Earning a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, the track beautifully contrasts deeply complex, dark storytelling with bright, infectious jazz-funk instrumentation.
