Drawing its title directly from George Orwell's '1984', the track serves as a blistering, politically charged opener to 'Hail to the Thief'. It abandons the predominantly electronic textures of the band's previous two albums in favor of aggressive, jagged guitar interplay and a frantic, shifting time signature. The song acts as a direct critique of political double-speak and complacency.
