Album Notes & Community Reviews
Serving as the devastating closer to 'The Bends', Thom Yorke has famously described 'Street Spirit' as the band's darkest song, claiming it was 'written by the devil' and lacks any resolution. The track is built on a relentless, hypnotic acoustic guitar arpeggio inspired by R.E.M., swelling with choral arrangements into a fatalistic meditation on mortality and capitalism. The critically acclaimed, high-speed camera music video perfectly captured the song's inescapable sense of dread.
