Album Notes & Community Reviews
Red Hot Chili Peppers' eighth studio album softens the funk rock of their earlier work into melodic, harmony-rich alternative rock, with Rick Rubin's production foregrounding John Frusciante's layered guitars and backing vocals. Written in the aftermath of 'Californication', it is the band's most reflective record, its summer brightness shadowed by lyrics about drugs, longing and death.
