Under the Bridge

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stemming from a deeply personal poem written by Anthony Kiedis regarding his feelings of isolation and past struggles with heroin addiction, the song marked a significant departure from the band's traditional funk-punk style. The arrangement is built around John Frusciante's delicate, Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar work and concludes with a soaring choral backing. Its surprising vulnerability transformed the group from cult favorites into global alternative rock superstars.
