The Diamond Sea

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Closing the 'Washing Machine' album with a sprawling 19-minute runtime, this epic oscillates between delicate, melancholic vocal melodies and vast, oceanic waves of chaotic guitar feedback. It represents Sonic Youth's ultimate mastery of improvisational noise, featuring extensive, effects-heavy interplay between Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. The radio edit drastically truncated the track to five minutes, losing its mesmerizing ambient drift.
