Famously added to the landmark album 'London Calling' so late in production that it was omitted from the initial tracklisting, 'Train in Vain' functions as a hidden track of immaculate pop perfection. Sung and predominantly written by Mick Jones following his breakup with Viv Albertine of The Slits, the track incorporates a breezy, Motown-influenced rhythm rather than punk aggression. It unexpectedly became the band's first Top 30 hit in the United States.
