Album Notes & Community Reviews
Originally composed as an acoustic instrumental by guitarist Noel Hogan, 'Linger' was transformed into a heartbreaking ballad of adolescent rejection once Dolores O'Riordan contributed her lyrics and soaring vocal melodies. The track's lush string arrangement, provided by producer Stephen Street, elevated the alternative pop song into an international radio staple. It secured the group's massive commercial breakthrough in the United States before gaining traction in their native Europe.
