Album Notes & Community Reviews
Widely regarded as Ray Davies' songwriting masterpiece, this track presents a pristine, melancholic vignette of two lovers observed from the perspective of an isolated narrator. The song's shimmering, tape-delay guitar work and intricate descending bassline perfectly capture the romantic yet gritty atmosphere of 1960s London. It frequently tops critical lists as one of the greatest English pop songs ever written.
