Album Notes & Community Reviews
Despite being widely misinterpreted as a tender romantic ballad, Sting famously penned this track about jealous obsession and insidious surveillance following the collapse of his marriage. Andy Summers' complex, muted guitar arpeggiations and the song's sparse, tension-filled arrangement resulted in the biggest-selling single of 1983. Its iconic, starkly lit black-and-white music video became an indelible staple of the MTV generation.
