Fools Gold

Operating as a massive, nine-minute jam, 'Fools Gold' crystallized the 'Madchester' sound by fusing 1960s jangle-pop sensibilities with contemporary acid house culture. Built heavily on a looped drum break sampled from James Brown's 'Funky Drummer', the track features John Squire's intricate wah-wah guitar lines interweaving with Mani's elastic bass. Ian Brown's whispered lyrics drew surreal inspiration from the film 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'.
