Built atop an incredibly complex, overdubbed drum loop masterminded by Jeff Porcaro and a synthesized kalimba brass patch played on a Yamaha CS-80, 'Africa' is a zenith of polished 80s studio engineering. Keyboardist David Paich wrote the lyrics based on an idealized, romanticized vision of a continent he had never visited. The track achieved immense internet-era meme status in the 2010s, ensuring its continual global ubiquity.
