ONLY FREE WHEN SLEEPING

Lyrics for ONLY FREE WHEN SLEEPING

I hope you know the best of me And that I keep on and keep you free There's a strong wind from over the sea And darling, the nation's leaning There's a damp patch in the ceiling In it someone saw the face of God But I only saw the paint peeling Greet the thieves with a nod Consider a crook's feelings The patch and the pips need feeding But all I see is the land receding Any man's face or the face of God Never known, only free when sleeping Empathy is teething England's hounds are barking The billionaires are breeding And the children are still starving If you're gonna stick around You'd best pay for parking Get your ticket from the face of God Greet your maker with a nod If you ever find him Consider a creator's feelings Billions of sons and daughters Like snakes skin peeling Like falling clouds of stars You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping I hope you know the best of me And that I keep on and keep you free There's a strong wind from over the sea And darling, the nation's leaning There's an audience in the ceiling In it someone saw the face of God But I can only see the slack jaws And hear the sounds of jeering Greet your killer with a nod Consider your feelings You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping You only smile when you're dreaming You're only free when you're sleeping
