Revelations of the Black Flame

Album Notes & Community Reviews

The Norwegian black metal outfit took a highly polarizing, experimental turn on their fourth album, largely abandoning their signature hyper-speed blast beats for suffocating, mid-tempo industrial dirges. Co-mixed by Celtic Frost's Tom G. Warrior, the recording relies heavily on expansive dark ambient interludes and oppressive, murky guitar tones. The radical stylistic departure alienated many purists but showcased a bleak, avant-garde vision of extremity.
