Integrating new drummer Lia Simone Braswell, the famously loud, incredibly abrasive Brooklyn trio noticeably dialed back their signature wall-of-fuzz distortion for a leaner, highly rhythmic post-punk aesthetic. The remarkably concise album relies heavily on driving, motorik drum machine beats, prominent basslines, and Oliver Ackermann's detached, deadpan vocals. It was a polarizing but fascinatingly sparse, nocturnal reinvention for the veteran noise-rock act.
