By Myself

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Self-released on his own Bisharra imprint, this unaccompanied solo cello recording is a radical, foundational document in the history of avant-garde jazz strings. Wadud aggressively plucks, bows, and strikes the instrument, drawing equally from delta blues traditions, free jazz energy, and classical technique. It remains a staggering, intimate portrait of a pioneer completely redefining the sonic capabilities of the cello.
