Album Notes & Community Reviews
Produced by Rashid Vally and recorded in Cape Town, the album sold more than 40,000 copies in South Africa within weeks of release, powered by a quintet in which saxophonists Basil Coetzee and Robbie Jansen frame Dollar Brand's piano. Its title track, built around Coetzee's tenor solo, became an unofficial anthem of the anti-apartheid movement and the defining statement of Cape jazz.
