Album Notes & Community Reviews
A crucial document of the New York loft jazz scene, 'Life's Force' presents a dynamic, fiercely independent vision of spiritual and modal jazz. Ahmed Abdullah's commanding trumpet work leads an expanded ensemble through complex, polyrhythmic compositions that emphasize collective improvisation and deep, resonant cultural expression. It remains an essential, deeply impassioned recording from a highly fertile period of avant-garde jazz.
