Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released independently on her own label, 'Not a Pretty Girl' solidified Ani DiFranco's reputation as a fiercely autonomous and defining voice in 90s alternative folk. The album's stark, highly percussive acoustic guitar style is matched by unsparingly candid lyrics addressing feminism, societal expectations, and personal boundaries. It remains a hallmark of the era's indie-folk movement, celebrated for its raw emotional honesty and uncompromising DIY ethos.
