Album Notes & Community Reviews

Leading an extraordinary ensemble of American and European avant-garde luminaries, Anthony Braxton applies his unique compositional diagrams to a massive big band format in this 1978 concert. The recording balances swinging, traditional big band idioms with terrifyingly dense walls of free jazz chaos and complex structural shifts. It perfectly illustrates Braxton's ability to orchestrate massive collective improvisation without sacrificing compositional integrity.
