Biography
A profoundly influential composer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator, Anthony Braxton is a towering figure in creative music. Emerging from Chicago's Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), he became known for his vast, systemic approach to music, merging free jazz, contemporary classical, and mathematical concepts. His 1969 double-LP 'For Alto' was the first full-length album of solo saxophone music, a landmark that redefined the instrument's possibilities. His prolific output on labels like #Arista# and his own #Braxton House# includes everything from small ensemble works and massive orchestral pieces to a series of operas, all marked by his unique graphic notation and philosophical systems.
