drukqs

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released as a sprawling double album, 'drukqs' juxtaposes furiously complex drill 'n' bass programming against delicate, sparse piano pieces influenced by composers Erik Satie and John Cage. The record's production is notable for its use of computer-controlled instruments, such as a modified Disklavier, to perform the acoustic passages, which stand in stark contrast to the aggressive and meticulous breakbeat arrangements. Initially met with a polarized critical reception for its perceived lack of cohesion, 'drukqs' has since been re-evaluated and is significant for containing "Avril 14th," which has become one of Aphex Twin's most enduring and widely recognized compositions.
