Produced alongside Nigel Godrich, the album conceptually divides itself into two halves: 'I', focusing on modern anxiety and isolation, and 'WE', focusing on communal reconnection. It consciously strips back the disco and electronic experimentation of their previous release, returning instead to the sweeping, anthemic indie rock arrangements that defined their earliest commercial successes.
