Album Notes & Community Reviews
Compiled from previously unreleased 1964 sessions, 'Kyoto' captures a slightly augmented lineup of the legendary Jazz Messengers, featuring Freddie Hubbard and Wayne Shorter. Art Blakey drives the ensemble with his signature explosive polyrhythms, navigating complex hard bop originals and standard interpolations. Despite being an archival release, it brilliantly demonstrates the fierce, transitional edge of the mid-60s post-bop movement.
