Art Farmer Quintet

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Featuring the incredibly sophisticated arrangements and alto saxophone work of Gigi Gryce, the exceptionally lyrical trumpeter leads a tightly woven, fiercely swinging quintet session. The frontline interplay heavily emphasizes advanced, slightly complex harmonic structures over raw blowing, though the rhythm section led by Duke Jordan ensures an unyielding bebop pulse. The deeply elegant, highly praised recording perfectly captures the intellectual refinement crystallizing within the East Coast scene.
