Biography
Art Farmer was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist celebrated for his exceptionally warm, lyrical, and mellow tone. A master of hard bop, he was known for thoughtful, melodic improvisations. After early work with *Horace Silver* and *Gerry Mulligan*, he co-founded the legendary sextet The Jazztet with saxophonist *Benny Golson* in 1959, which produced the classic album 'Meet the Jazztet' on the #Argo# label. In the early 1960s, Farmer largely switched to the flugelhorn, helping to popularize it as a solo instrument. He later settled in Vienna, becoming a respected figure on the European jazz scene while continuing to tour and record prolifically.
