Brass Shout

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Augmented by the incredibly intricate, brass-heavy arrangements of Benny Golson, the exceptionally lyrical trumpeter leads a massive ensemble through a set of sophisticated hard bop. The absence of woodwinds creates a uniquely thick, brilliant tonal color that perfectly highlights the leader's warm, articulate soloing. It remains a highly praised, structurally ambitious masterpiece of late-1950s orchestration.
