Raz Mesinai learned Middle Eastern drumming as a child in the Sinai under dervish sheik Murshid Hassan, and his solo debut as Badawi folds that percussion into the dubbed-out New York illbient circle around DJ Spooky. The album's title was later adopted, nearly verbatim, as the name of the Canadian band Bedouin Soundclash.
