Album Notes & Community Reviews

After the tragic plane crash that claimed most of their original lineup alongside Otis Redding, the rebuilt Bar-Kays stormed back with the fiercely energetic 'Black Rock'[cite: 1]. The album captures the band absorbing the heavy, psychedelic funk-rock influences of Sly & The Family Stone while retaining their trademark Memphis soul horn section[cite: 1]. The project revitalized the group, firmly establishing them as premier architects of 1970s progressive funk[cite: 1].
