McCreary, who trained at USC Thornton and studied with Elmer Bernstein, built the score around world percussion and folk instruments rather than a conventional orchestra, and the album's thirty tracks run seventy-eight minutes. It includes both the US and UK main title themes, alongside a few cues by Richard Gibbs, who had scored the preceding miniseries.
